Q.The stepper motor (including αSTEP) is not working. Why isn't it working?

A.

Follow the process below to confirm the cause.

What is the state of your stepper motor?

It's trying to move but it won't

It's not moving at all

Is the shaft excited?

Excited

Not excited

  • *This process is for when the driver is the pulse input type.
For the built-in controller type, possible causes of not working include data setting, parameter setting, I/O input, etc. Confirm the troubleshooting section in the product user manual.

There is a problem with the wiring or settings

The cause may be that the pulses are not being output normally from the controller, are not being input (recognized) normally by the driver, or there is a broken wire. Review wiring and settings if any of the following applies.

  • Disconnection or poor connection in the pulse input line
  • When using 2-pulse input mode, CW input and CCW input are turned ON simultaneously
  • When using 1-pulse input mode, the operation pulse is input to DIR. input (rotation direction switching input)
  • The electrical current to the pulse input unit is lower than the product specification value
  • The width of the pulse when ON is shorter than the product specification value
  • The setting of the step angle/resolution select switch is different from the intended state
  • The electromagnetic brake of the electromagnetic brake motor is locked

When no electrical current is being supplied to the motor

The cause may be the main power supply and connection, or settings related to the operating current. Review wiring and settings if any of the following items applies.

  • The main power supply of the driver will not turn on (POWER LED is off)
  • The output power current off signal and the excitation off signals are ON.*
  • The motor wire is broken or has poor connection
  • The operating current setting of the motor is set lower than the initial value (100 %)
  • *The input signal that cuts excitation to the motor has a different signal name depending on the series.
Please refer to the user manual.
