Rise Time
The low-speed synchronous motor has excellent start-up, stop and instantaneous reverse responsiveness. Within the range of permissible load inertia, it is possible to start, stop, and instantaneously reverse within 1.5 cycles of the power supply frequency.
The start and stop times are shown in the table below.
The variation in each time is due to the power-supply phase at power on and the relative positions of the rotor and stator.

A number indicating the gear ratio is specified where the box □ is located in the product name.
DC excitation
If a larger holding force than the standstill holding torque is required when the motor is stopped, turn off the AC power supply and then apply a DC voltage.

- *Please note heat generation from external resistors.
- The color in parentheses ( ) indicates the lead wire color of the SMK0 type.
- For the SMK5 type , connect the included external resistor in series with the capacitor.
- For the SMK0 type and SMK2 type , external resistors are not required.
- To prevent damage to the DC power supply due to surge voltage, connect a CR circuit for surge suppression between the contacts of relays and switches.
DC Excitation Characteristics
- Characteristics are those of the motor alone.
- When the geared motor and gearhead are used in combination, the value is obtained by multiplying the characteristics of the motor alone by the gear ratio.
The output torque of the gearhead must be lower than the permissible torque. - ----- in the graph represents the permissible applied voltage.
